While I clearly take lots of photos of coffee and therefore must drink a fair amount of coffee, I don’t love coffee. I mean, it's pretty tasty and warm, but I’m not someone that requires caffeine to stay awake and I probably prefer the taste of a tea latte over a traditional latte anyways. So why coffee?
Well, as someone who runs on anxiety, routine is necessary to keep me grounded. I can easily adapt to new places as long as I establish a morning routine to start my days off feeling as though I have done something productive. Feeling productive, as strange as it sounds, allows me to actually be productive later and finish the work I need to get done. If I start my day out laying in bed, I likely will never gain the motivation required to sit through my CS lectures or even to simply read or write. My morning routine isn’t perfect, and it's not exactly the same each day, but having some sense of what I am doing once I wake up is necessary to keep me functioning.
My coffee, just like my morning exercise, is something that is an integral part of my morning routine. However, it isn’t the coffee itself, it’s the ritual of going to a cafe, seeing the same people, sitting in the same spot, and talking with friends. Taking some time to slow down and to just focus on relaxing can be difficult, but my cafe runs force me to do that very thing. The well-crafted drink is merely a bonus.
(Monday September 4th)
Since I had been sick, I was still a little bit low on energy this morning, I wasn’t planning on leaving to get coffee. When my scout knocked on my door to ask to clean my room, I realized I needed to leave and decided it would be a good excuse to get walking. Walking instantly put me in a better mood and during my walk I figured that I would go to my favorite cafe to pick up a latte. I almost never get take-away, but today I was still feeling a bit fatigued, so I asked for my latte to take home. I realized I had filled out my stamp-card (free drink!), so I enthusiastically handed my card over to the barista and she joined me in my excitement. I waited by the counter for my drink(also something I don’t usually do), and gazed at a local fair being set up on my walk back.
